Our Bali escapade began with a tantalizing trip to a local chocolate factory, offering a sensory overload with the delightful aroma of cocoa. The friendly staff warmly welcomed us, guiding our steps through the intricate art of chocolate-making. Sampling an array of flavours from creamy coconut to refreshing mint, we indulged in a tasting session that left our taste buds tingling with anticipation. While not every combination suited everyone, we couldn’t resist bringing home bars of cookies and cream, coconut, caramel crunch, and peppermint delight. These became cherished souvenirs, allowing us a taste of Bali’s sweetness whenever the craving struck.
Local Market Treasures and Beachside Retreats
Exploring the vibrant Seminyak fruit market, we encountered a bustling hub teeming with an array of fresh and exotic fruits at a fraction of supermarket prices. Supporting local businesses, we revelled in the colours and scents, promising ourselves a return for a proper shopping spree.
A beach visit, while a perfect retreat, met its match with intense heat and choppy waters. However, this setback was no match for the solace found in delectable ice cream under the scorching sun. Despite a slight hair quality issue due to the local water, our stay was rescued by a refreshing dip in the hotel pool and a satisfying meal.
Ubud’s Rice Fields: A Natural Marvel
The highlight of our Bali adventure was the journey to Ubud to witness the breathtaking rice fields, a trip made even more special by our parents’ presence. The winding 30-kilometer route was a scenic marvel, leading to expansive rice fields that stretched out like a lush, vibrant paradise. Walking along narrow pathways, we felt like we were hiking through a tropical wonderland, surrounded by awe-inspiring terraced landscapes.
Our visit to the rice fields included a delightful detour to learn about local coffee production. Here, we discovered the fascinating process involving the famous civet, known as Luwak, whose selection of ripe coffee cherries leads to a unique coffee experience. Tasting various coffee and tea flavors, we marveled at the exquisite range on offer.
