A few weeks ago, my friend and I decided to go away for a few days. However, when checking hotel prices in Scotland, we realised that our options were not budget friendly. Thus, we had a look for cheap flights from Glasgow. Spoiler alert – we found a bargain!
Flights
We found flights from Glasgow Prestwick to Faro for £58.27. Like previous trips, we chose the value option as we only stayed in Faro for two nights. We landed in Faro at 8.30pm on Monday and flew back to Glasgow at 4.50pm which gave us just under 48 hours in Faro!
Airport Transfers
There is a 50-minute train from Glasgow Central to Prestwick Airport and costs £6.05 per person for a single ticket. When arriving in Faro, we didn’t use airport transfer as the accommodation was only a 26-minute walk away from the airport. However, we took the bus to Faro Airport from the town centre, paying £2.10 for a single ticket.
Accommodation
Finding budget-friendly accommodation was difficult as we booked the trip last minute. However, we found a cheap flat for £67.46 per person for two nights. We chose a flat rather than a hotel as we were able to make most meals ourselves.

Activities/Experiences
We spent our first day on the Ilha Deserta which is accessible by boat. We bought a ferry tickets (return) for £10 per person from a booth at the harbour in the town centre of Faro. I quickly regretted this decision as there were cheaper tickets for the local ferry to the beach. We spent our second (and last) day exploring Faro and doing some sightseeing – for free!
Tip: Go to the Faro Dock and get tickets for the local boat which only costs £3.75 for a return ticket. Don’t make the same mistake as we did and fall into the tourist trap! 😊

Food & Drink
We bought food for breakfasts and lunch at a supermarket. This allowed us to enjoy some drinks at a rooftop bar and have dinner at a restaurant. In total, we paid £69.72.

Total costs
- Activities: £10
- Accommodation: £67.46
- Transfers: £14.20
- Flights: £58.27
- Food & Drink: £69.72
Total: £219.65
This trip could have been made under £200 by taking the local boat and having a cheaper meal for dinner.
