Holidays in the UK can be expensive, particularly with the current Cost of Living crisis. Thus, budgeting and saving money becomes more important without missing out on activities and experiences. These are my money saving tips for UK holidays that have helped me stick to my budget:
- Go to Tourist Hotspots Mid-Week
Accommodation at tourist hotspots is naturally more expensive as demand is higher compared to places that aren’t as popular. However, popular tourist destinations are even more expensive at the weekend. The cheapest way of still visiting tourist hotspots is therefore staying there midweek. You can compare hotel prices on Google and quickly see the price difference. Staying at a Premier Inn Tuesday to Wednesday rather than from Saturday to Sunday is 17% cheaper.

2. Use Cashback Apps
Regardless of what you book for your holiday, cashback apps can save you a lot of money. Although you pay the full price, you receive money back after your purchase has been processed. This may take a few weeks to a few months. Once you have received the money on your cashback account, you can transfer the money to your bank account. Personally, I use Quidco as I have saved a lot when booking hotels, flights and even insurance.

Currently, as soon as you have £5 confirmed cashback, you receive a £1 bonus. 🙂
2. Travel Off-Peak
No matter if you travel by bus or train, you save a lot of money if you travel during off-peak times. Additionally, you don’t need to have a Railcard to save money on transportation. Off-peak tickets can be extremely handy when visiting islands and booking a Rail & Sail tickets. For example, an anytime Rail & Sail ticket from Glasgow to Arran is £24.50 and an off-peak ticket is £17.80. Thus, adjusting your itinerary to travel during off peak times can make or break your budget.
